Nominations are now open for the 2023 PRUsAP Awards

Following another successful year in alternative provision, the time has once again come to recognise the dedication and tireless effort of our colleagues, to better the lives of so many young people. The nominations are now open for the 2023 PRUsAP awards.

As with last year, there are six awards which are open to nominations from the AP community:

  • AP Practitioner - Teacher 2023

  • AP Practitioner - Support and Intervention 2023

  • AP Leader 2023

  • AP Team 2023

  • The Eugene Brunet Innovation in AP Award 2023

  • Outstanding contribution to AP 2023

Eligibility criteria for each of the awards is outlined below.

Your nomination must detail exactly why the individual, team or innovation should receive the award above all others - the awards will be judged on the strength of the nomination. There is a word limit, so use it wisely! Remember that nominees might not be known to the judges and therefore the details included in the nomination are crucial.

You may nominate in every category, and you may nominate multiple individuals or teams. Nominations will close at midnight on Thursday 12th October and will be judged by a panel from across the wider AP and social mobility community. All nominees will receive a notification from PRUsAP and the winners will be announced at this year's Annual Awards Celebration, the details of which will be announced later in the year.

Who Can you Nominate?

AP Practitioner - Teacher 2023

Nominees should come from the registered alternative provision sector.

Any teacher working in alternative provision in 2023 who has made a significant impact on the lives of young people.

AP Practitioner - Support and Intervention 2023

Nominees should come from the registered alternative provision sector.

Any member of staff working in a non-teaching role in alternative provision in 2023 who has made a significant impact on the lives of young people.

AP Leader 2023

Nominees should come from the registered alternative provision sector.

Any leader working at any level in alternative provision; the AP Leader Award is not limited to Headteachers and Senior Leaders. We expect to receive a wide variety of nominations from across the sector and across the leadership spectrum. The nomination should make it clear how the nominee's leadership had a significantly positive impact on young people.

AP Team 2023

Nominees should come from the registered alternative provision sector.

Much like the leader award, there is no limitation on the term 'team' in this category. Again, we expect to receive a wide variety of nominations from across the alternative provision sector reflecting the varied and ever-changing nature of the work we do in AP. As with the leader award, the nomination simply has to make it clear how the team had a significantly positive impact on young people.

The Eugene Brunet Innovation in AP Award 2023

In 2023, PRUsAP and the AP community were saddened by the passing of our colleague and friend, Eugene Brunet. Eugene was a true innovator and a pioneer for performance and outcome data in the alternative provision sector. Eugene was a regular at the PRUsAP annual conference, and was passionate about capturing a true reflection of the national outcomes for the young people we work with. It is only right that this award, created in 2022 be renamed to honour his work.

For this category, we expect nominations from across the education sector, and from a wide variety of areas deemed innovative. The nature of innovation is not prescribed and once again, the award will be judged on the strength of the nominations. Essentially, you need to tell us why your nomination deserves to be recognised as innovative. Whilst there is no specific criteria for innovation, by way of example, nominations could be made from the following:

  • Alternative provision in mainstream education

  • Use of data in alternative provision

  • Use of technology in alternative provision

  • Use of pets in alternative provision

  • Creativity and innovation in the curriculum

Outstanding Contribution to AP 2023

Since 2022, the Outstanding Contribution to AP Award has been open to nomination from the AP community. Those nominated for the award will have dedicated a significant part of the career to the alternative provision sector, and had a profound impact on the lives of young people in AP. Effectively, this is the PRUsAP lifetime service award, which recognises a new individual every year.

Previous winners of the award are:

  • 2020 - Sharon Wilson

  • 2021 - Cath Kitchen

  • 2022 - Rob Gasson
